Stress

"Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken."

~Psalm 55:22

STRESS

STRESS

Leaves Us Vulnerable To Depression And Anxiety

How Stress Works

• You get negative moods or emotions caused by traumatic event or triggered by memories of a traumatic event. This ultimately led to generation of negative stress.

• If the root cause of the Stress is never treated, these aliments keep recurring over a short period of time.

• The presence of stress introduces changes in your personality. This gives rise to negative attitudes and behaviors towards others.

• The realization that your behavior towards others has altered leads to further increase in stress and generation of anxiety and depression which only reinforce negative moods and emotions starting the cycle all over again.

Most stress sufferers can identify this stress cycle in their lives. But find themselves helpless to prevent it or battle it.  This is where Ahava's program comes in.  Through the use of our Equine Therapy Program and our other Therapies we help our participants learn healthy coping mechanisms to deal with the stress they confront daily

Trauma Isn't the only cause of PTSD
Complex PTSD and Ongoing Stress

Although PTSD was previously categorized to originate from one traumatic event, it is now recognized that continuous exposure to stressful situations, or cumulative stress, can also cause symptoms of PTSD. This is referred to as complex PTSD, prolonged duress stress disorder (PDSD) or rolling PTSD. This type of disorder often results from any of the following experiences:

  • Repeated exposure to disaster, accidents, deaths or violent acts (police, firemen, paramedics)

  • Frequently having to deliver traumatic news to others

  • Regular exposure to the abuse of children

  • Regular and repeated exposure to verbal abuse, emotional abuse or threats

  • Frequent sexual victimization or abuse

At Ahava, we treat all forms of PTSD, including PDSD (prolonged duress stress disorder).  Equine Therapy helps to teach emotional balance, trust and communication skills.  Those that participate in our program not only learn to redirect their stress, the interaction between Horse and Participant teaches them how to cope with the daily stressors in their lives in a healthy way.
